Moodboard for THE GALLANT

Moodboards are a fun new tool for writers to quickly share the tone of their work in progress. The moodboard will typically have nine panels (3x3), with images that convey the atmosphere or tone of the novel they are working on. Usually, the images are found on the web, but I prefer to use my own photography.

Beginning at top left and circling clockwise, the images represent James Dwelly, the main character of THE GALLANT; a ship for The Seonaidh, the cannibal pirate; MacTammas, the blind cook; a wick lamp, for the lighthouse setting; Anne, Dwelly’s sister; MacTammas’s cat, Fife; Gwynedd, Dwelly’s niece; and the rowboat on the beach. In the middle is a sample cover.

My friend Kathleen Foxx is one of the brains behind #moodpitch, a new pitch event on Twitter where authors can pitch their WIPs (completed, polished, query-ready manuscripts) to participating agents. The inaugural event happens April 7 on Twitter, so get your moodboard ready!
